There are lots of things to do over the weekend if you are in Kampala. With exception of sudden rains is some parts of the country, most areas are expected to stay dry.  Before you look anywhere else, check out our list of Top 5 things to do in Uganda this month – Enjoy!

1. Explore World renowned Secret Islands

Tired of the rainy Christmas holidays in Kampala, head-out to the Ssese Islands.  Comprising an archipelago of 84 islands, they offer white-sand beaches, celestial sunsets, bonfires on the beach and a remote location in the middle of Lake Victoria. Most travellers head straight to Bugala Island, which has the nicest beaches as well as a great choice of accommodation. Lonely Planet.

2. Take a game walk

Lake Mburo National Park, Mbarara

Lake Mburo national park offers the best game viewing in Uganda – crocodiles & hippos in the lake, diversity of antelopes, as well a huge number of water birds. It is the only park in which visitors can walk (accompanied by a ranger). If you are lucky enough, you could see a leopard. Also meet the Herders of the long-horn Ankole Cattle.

3. Cruise on the Nile

Jinja Town.

The Nile which is the longest river in Africa & the world, it runs from Uganda all the way to Egypt for 4,132 miles.  Whether you are family or larger group, you will find the perfect cruise to suit you. Choose from a Nile Sunset Cruise or a Lunch cruise or both.

4. Watch Uganda’s Giant fly bird

Mabamba Swamp & Queen Elizabeth National Park

This rare, giant aquatic bird is a must see on a trip. The Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex) or Shoe-billed Stork prefers to reside in undisturbed swamps that are mostly associated with lungfish and frogs who serve as its meal – it’s still possible to track.

5. Experience the ‘Wild Skies over Kajjansi’

The latest in adventures and adrenaline inducing thrills is now available at the Kajjansi airfield where the Kampala Aero Club and Flight Training Centre offers, at a cost of US$250 (confirm the rate but valid at the time of filing this story) per person a ride in a double decker bi-plane is now available. Loopings, rolls, inverted flight and more … ably performed by Capt. Howard Davenport. Visit www.flyuganda.com – prior bookings absolutely required and flight availability depends on the weather conditions of the day even if confirmed.
