Road Signs in Uganda

Like Many countries around the world with many different road signs to symbolize different actions for drivers using the road. Being a very important aspect for every self driver or any road user in Uganda can follow for purposes of safety and experience. Uganda too holds its own share of adventure and roads signs to adhere for an inspirational self drive in Uganda. Designed by the ministry of roads and enforced  by the Uganda police force under the traffic police force.

It should be noted that some of the road signs elected up along the road are sometimes not clear or sometimes washed down by constructing roads or sometimes stolen by locals for re-sale which sounds weird but is very true.

Driving in Uganda takes you through road signs of different categories and can always are noticed when you keep vigilant or when you slow down while drive on your self drive car rental in Uganda.  Below are some of the categories of sign posts you can always expect during your car rental trip in Uganda.

Regulatory signs: You shall always meet regulatory signs that typically regulate you on the right use of the road when driving in Uganda on your self drive car rental. Expect to see road signs like Stop and yield, Speed regulation, turn and lane use, movement regulation, One way or divided roads, parking and highway regulation signs, Traffic signal, Rail and light signals, seat belt and truck route. These are in form of blinking lights or still sign posts usually seen on the left hand side of the road.

Warning Signs: Usually meant to give you a heads up metres before the actual spot and always helpful in signaling to reduce speed and prepare to take action on your self drive safari. Such warning signs are turn and curve, intersection, advance traffic control, Merge and lane transition, width restriction, Railroad and light Rail, Pavement condition, Divided highway, Dead end, playground, speed humps which are common in Uganda, Road works ahead These are the most common signs spotted on the left roadside of the road.

Guide and Informational Signs: Meant to give you more light for planning when driving are some of the road signs we have in Uganda and reached during a self drive car rental in Uganda. Such road signs will be; Destination and distance signs, express and Freeway, work zone information, General information, Cultural interest and Recreational signs.

Recreational and cultural Interests: Nearly close to information signs, these are also signs that give or highlight information to drivers on the highway on on main roads. Some of these are also good for self drive tourists looking for particular destinations like general information signs, Traveller Service signs, Accommodation service signs, land recreation signs, Water Recreational Signs and Game reserve Signs.

Some of these signs along the roadsides are invisible, have been washed away or not clear sometimes. Preferably slow down whenever you find such a sign post so you are able to clearly get the right information. Ignoring some road signs like the Warning signs of speed would definitely lead you for a fine if ignored and seen by the traffic police. The Traffic police are sometimes on the roads to foster with speed guns to make sure these road signs are implemented or are followed by road users and yes this applies to the Self drive car rental independent travelers to Uganda.
