Kalisoliso; Uganda’s Most Durable Morning Radio Show

Date:

From a distance, Abu Kawenja, Kato Lubwama and Abby Mukiibi look like responsible citizens, husbands and fathers; yet when they start to run their morning show Kalisoliso on CBS, you’ll think lunacy just invaded the building.

This is not to say they are not responsible, but just stressing how interesting it is, when taking one’s job seriously means getting to their unserious best. These guys have dedicated every weekday morning of their lives to “lunacy”, just to keep their listeners entertained.

It is the same “lunacy” that won Kalisoliso several awards for best entertainment radio program. It is the same “madness” that has made Kalisoliso the most durable morning radio show in Uganda.

For over 16 years now, the three “musketeers” of Kalisoliso have preserved the fidelity of fans from different walks of life, to the show. Kalisoliso attracts a wide array of listeners from different walks of life and different age groups.

In my opinion, the durability of Kalisoliso arises out of the fact that its presenters are original, unique and hilarious. They are not the type you’ll hear trying to force an alien English accent. They are just natural, raw humor.

Given their “unserious” nature on radio, very few people would expect Abu Kawenja, Kato Lubwama and Abby Mukiibi to get involved in serious issues; yet over the years, the Kalisoliso trio has been seriously involved in a lot of productive ventures and charity.

For example, Abbey Mukiibi is a multi talented and award winning actor, who also heads Afri-Talent. He also has a deal with MTN, where the only telecom ads he can do are those of only MTN.

Kato Lubwama is also a talented actor who is at the helm of Diamond ensemble. Kato is also known for being a serious politician.

We can’t overlook their role in the Kasubi tombs reconstruction fundraising, the Tegula project to re-roof Namirembe cathedral and the Kaliisoliiso Education Trust, which ensures that vulnerable children get education and life skills

Many radio programs have come and gone, but Kalisoliso’s popularity will stay for all eternity.
